Workers comp insurance provides coverage for employee medical expenses and lost wages. The coverage only applies if the employee is made ill or injured in the course of their work. Work comp may cover an employee who falls off a ladder and breaks a bone or an employee that gets sick from a chemical leak in your factory. It will not cover non-work related injuries or illnesses, like an employee that misses work because of injuries sustained playing in a softball league on their own time.
